He subsequently worked with the sector and TAFE SA to implement the new training arrangements for authorised persons. prior to becoming a consultant some 16 years ago, peter worked in local government.
Dr Mark Lawrie is the President of the Australian Veterinary Association and was the Chief Veterinarian with RSPCA NSW for almost 15 years. He has focused on a number of projects in animal welfare and management.
Dr Michael Hayward BVSc CMAVA is a veterinary practitioner from Canberra. Since attending his first UAM conference in 1996, Michael has been involved in animal management issues at various levels and sits on the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy Companion Animals Working Group.
Dr Dick Murray is a veterinarian who practices in Townsville, North Queensland. He graduated from the University of Queensland in 1973 and together with his veterinary practice commitments, has been heavily involved with urban animal management in Australia for much of the time since then. Dick’s MSc (JCU) was on the subject of urban animal management and his membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists is in the Animal Behaviour Chapter of that organisation. He was awarded the Gilruth Prize by the Australian Veterinary Association and the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2004 for service to the veterinary profession and the community, largely to do with his work with urban animal management.
Claire Gick has been involved in animal management in Western Australia for over 15 years. Claire has been active over her career in various canine training (agility, obedience, showing), small animal veterinary nursing (including a period as practice manager), municipal ranger (domestic animal management and law enforcement) and animal management consulting.
Cathy Pawsey is the Coordinator Policy and Legislation for Victoria's Bureau of Animal Welfare. This role involves the development of policy and legislation primarily related to animal welfare but also involvement in the domestic animal management area. Cathy has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Agriculture) and has worked in a range of animal related industries including both animal health and animal welfare regulatory roles.
Rob Morrice and Virgina Soderstrom have developed and coordinated the RPO Program in Victoria since its inception in 2000.The Program conducts over 2400 visits per year educating over 150,000 children and 40,000 parents annually.
Dr Ted Donelan: Dr Donelan is a veterinarian based in Melbourne, where he has been running his own private practices for more than 30 years. He is a Fellow of the Australian Veterinary Association, a Senior Academic Associate of the University of Melbourne and Life Member of RSPCA Victoria.
Ted has a long history of involvement in animal welfare and animal management policy planning and implementation at local, state and national levels. Coupled with decades of interest in indigenous affairs, it was a natural progression to involvement in the developing organisation that became Animal Management in Rural and Remote Indigenous Communities (AMRRIC), where Ted is currently Vice President.
For the past five years Ted has provided a veterinary service including a comprehensive dog health program to the remote indigenous community of Maningrida, which with its outstations encompasses and area of some 10,000 square kilometers in Arnhem Land.
