The post conference tour will highlight some of the pest birds that are currently subject to management operations in Western Australia as well as the opportunity to see some of our unique native avifauna. The half day tour will include several stops of up to 45 minutes to allow time to take in the birds and also include some of Perth and surrounds scenic features. To maximise our opportunity of seeing these birds, the tour will be guided by local members of Birds Australia.
The tour will commence with pickup from the conference venue at 2pm. We will travel by coach along one side of the Swan River to the foreshore of South Perth taking in vistas of the Perth city across the river. Here native corellas often gather in large numbers and become a problem. Further up the river at Burswood is an opportunity to see and hear rainbow lorikeets in large numbers. We will visit Herdsman or Monger lakes where introduced and native water birds and other species are common. A visit to Kings Park overlooking the city of Perth is an opportunity to see more small native species amongst the native vegetation, while taking in the city skyline of Perth. We will return to Fremantle via Cottesloe Beach where large numbers of Rainbow lorikeets settle to roost of an evening in a stand of Norfolk Island pine trees. The tour concludes at the conference venue at 7.30pm.
Note changes to approximate itinerary may be required pending abundance and location of birds.
