BOOK OF ABSTRACTS
Overview
The conference was held on Monday 1 - Thursday 4 December at the Maritime Museum in Fremantle, Western Australia. A welcome BBQ function followed directly after sessions on Monday, 1 December 2008.
Invasive birds have managed to establish populations in places outside their indigenous range, and have thrived to the extent that they pose threats to native flora and fauna or to man’s interests there.
We are convening a conference within The Indian Ocean basin and the South Pacific in order to promote dialogue among those who are experiencing or anticipating problems, especially within those regions but also aiming to capitalise on experiences worldwide.
The main themes of the conference will be:
x What makes some species good invade?
x Global transport mechanisms of invasive species
and their control
x Problems caused by invasives: assessment
and interpretation
x Management of establishing/established populations:
- methods available and their success
- benefits and risks to native species: what do we know?
- politics, economics and determination
x Future scenarios of human movement and climate change.
Information will be updated to the site as it becomes available.
