Professor David Blustein PhD Director of Doctoral Training, Department of Counselling, Developmental and Education Psychology, Lynch School of Education, Boston College, MA USA Professor Blustein is a fellow of Division 17 of the American Psychological Association, and he has received the Division 17 Early Career Scientist-Practitioner Award and the John Holland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Personality and Career Research. His current interests include the psychology of work, work-based transitions, the exploration process, the interface between work and interpersonal functioning, and the impact of social class in human development. He is a fellow of Division 17 of the American Psychological Association, and he has received the Division 17 Early Career Scientist-Practitioner Award and the John Holland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Personality and Career Research. His current interests include the psychology of work, work-based transitions, the exploration process, the interface between work and interpersonal functioning, and the impact of social class in human development.
Dr Janet Lenz Program Director - Career Advising, Counselling, and Programming, Career Centre, Florida State University. Dr. Janet G. Lenz is currently the Program Director for Career Advising, Counseling, and Programming in the Florida State University Career Center and a Senior Research Associate in the FSU Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. She has a courtesy faculty appointment in the FSU College of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology & Learning Systems and teaches an undergraduate career development course. She received her Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She received her Masters degree in Student Personnel Administration and her Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Systems, both from Florida State University. She has authored or co-authored numerous publications including Career Development and Planning: A Comprehensive Approach, The Self-Directed Search & Related Holland Materials, the Career Thoughts Inventory, and Career Thoughts Inventory workbook. She is a Master Career Counselor and National Certified Counselor. She is Past-President of the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and an NCDA Fellow. Prior to her presidency she served as NCDA’s Southern Region Trustee. In 2007, she received the American Counseling Association’s Professional Development Award.
Ms Martha Russell, MS, NCC, MCC Martha M. Russell’s passion for career development has focused on the needs of individuals as they progress through life’s stages since she opened her private practice in 1987. As a business owner and career development specialist she expanded her services to include consulting with governmental agencies and private corporations, training and facilitation on a variety of workforce, workplace and career issues. She has been presenting on the theme of mature workers since 1993 and continues to embrace the needs and concerns of the aging workforce both in her written work and her frequent conference presentations. Recent publications include ACA’s digest The Other Side of 55: Older Worker Preparation for Reemployment, chapter authorship in Thriving on an Aging Workforce: Strategies for Organizational and Systemic Change published by Krieger in 2005 and a co-author of Where Do I Go And What Do I Do Next? Activities for the Third Age, published by Sawdust Press. Her work has taken her to Eastern Europe, Asia and Australia. Martha is a past president of the National Career Development Association, a division of the American Counseling Association and a past president of the California Career Development Association. A graduate of Texas Woman's University in the field of speech/theatre, Martha went on to complete her master's degree in Career Counseling at California State University, Sacramento. Martha is a National Certified Counselor and a Master Career Counselor as well as an NCDA Career Development Facilitator Instructor (CDFI) and a Master Offender Workforce Development Specialist (OWDS).
Ms Vivienne Brown Head of Career Planning, Career Scotland In her role as Head of Career Planning since Careers Scotland inception in 2001, Vivienne has responsibility for the strategy and on-going development of career guidance services for people of all ages. This includes building an evidence base for career guidance and improving the position, role and understanding of career guidance services by policy-makers, partner organisations and individuals in Scotland and beyond. Previously Vivienne was Chief Executive of Lanarkshire Careers Company and has over 15 years of experience in a senior management and leadership role in career guidance. A short secondment to the Scottish Executive enabled Vivienne to contribute to the development and shape of Careers Scotland in 2000. This has since been followed up by a further secondment to Scottish Executive in 2005/06 to work on policy development and implementation for enterprise, education and social inclusion from a career guidance perspective.
Dr Mary McMahon Lecturer, The University of Queensland Mary is a lecturer in the School of Education at The University of Queensland where she teaches in the guidance and counselling specialisation of the Master of Educational Studies. She publishes extensively in the field of career development and is particularly interested in the career development of children and adolescents, qualitative approaches to career assessment, and narrative and storied approaches to career counselling. Mary is the 2002 winner of the New Hobsons Press and the Australian Association of Career Counsellors Inc. Excellence award for outstanding contribution to the career industry.
Professor Jim Bright, FAPS Bright and Associates Consultants Professor Bright has over 18 years of international consulting experience specialising in careers and training with Bright and Associates. As well as being a Partner in Bright and Associates, Jim is Professor of Career Education and Development at the Australian Catholic University where he coordinates the Graduate Certificate in Career Education taught in Melbourne and Sydney. He has trained hundreds of career counsellors around Australia, and in New Zealand and America. He works with individuals and organisations, assisting both with transition processes and training. In addition he has written many expert witness reports in relation to vocational capacity. He has a degree and a PhD in Psychology. Jim has pioneered the application of chaos and complexity theory approaches to career development. He has published nine books, and has well over 200 peer reviewed scientific journal articles, chapters and conference presentations.
Professor Jeff Malpas Professor Malpas has had extensive practical involvement with the public and private sector as an educator, consultant, advisor and administrator. He has an international reputation for his philosophical work in a range of areas from ethics and epistemology through to metaphysics and the history of philosophy. He contributes regularly to public debate in the popular media and is the author or editor of many books and articles. He has been head of the School of Philosophy and Director of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Tasmania, and is currently Professor of Philosophy at the University of Tasmania, where he also holds an ARC Professorial Fellowship, and is Distinguished Visiting Professor at LaTrobe University.
The Hon. David Bartlett MHA Minister for Education, Tasmania Elected for the first time in April 2004, David Bartlett MHA is the Labor member for Denison in the Tasmanian State Parliament. Following his re-election in March 2006, he was appointed to the position of Minister for Education. Prior to entering the Parliament David had an extensive career in the information technology industry and the public sector. Most recently David served as Senior Private Secretary to the former Tasmanian Treasurer, Hon Dr David Crean. David has also held positions Manager of the Tasmanian Innovation Centre, Tasmanian Member of the Commonwealth-State Science, Technology & Innovation Advisory Council, General Manager Innovation, Science & Technology (State Development) and National Manager - Standard Operating Environment (Telstra). David is Patron of the St Johns Park Bowls Club, Patron at the North Hobart Cricket Club and Patron Moonah Navy Club Amongst others, David is a member of the New Town Eagle Soccer Club, Moonah Promotions, Glenorchy and Moonah Business Association, Tasmanian Council of Social Services (TasCOSS) and a Director of the Moonah Rotary Club. David was born in Hobart in 1968 and grew up in Moonah and Mt. Nelson. He was educated at Mt. Nelson Primary, Taroona High and Hobart College when it first moved from Letitia Street to the current Mt. Nelson campus. Following this he completed both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Graduate Diploma of Business in Professional Management at the University of Tasmania. David is married to Larissa and they have two young children: a son, Hudson and a daughter, Matilda.
